a guide to cycling injuries was a last-minute addition. i hugged the pavement twice this week, people, which is downright unacceptable. first, waving on a driver at a 4-way stop while squeezing my newly-adjusted brakes a bit too hard. results? slight skinning of the left knee, beautifully-colored bruise inside my right thigh. the worst part was planting a glove in the cold cold gutter water. but hey, my brake brakes now, instead of just slowing me down some, so that's nice! and it'll be even better once i'm used to them. and then, taking a corner too hard and hitting my pedal on the road. a group of, like, four people were walking by of course, and i got my best reaction from a passer-by ever! instead of ignoring me, he was all, "are you ok?" and "is your bike ok?" and "do you need any help?" yes, no, and no; but once i replaced the back wheel (?!) and got the frustratingly twisted chain back on, all was well, except some scraping on my right elbow. and oh, did i mention it's winter? so i oil my chain a lot, and my nose is always runny. and i wiped at it as i put my bike back together, and chain grease ended up all over my face. yes, i am five.
